#1 I am currently reading Another Thing To Fall by Laura Lippman. I got it when I was in Pittsburgh, because I finished the book I brought with me and I needed something to read.
#2. I do not have nearly as much time to read as I would like. Back in the day (AKA before I had kids) I could easily read a book every few days. In fact, Sundays was designated as "reading day". It was a glorious time when we slept in late, stayed in our pajamas all day and did nothing but read....ahhh..the good old days.
#3. I like to read in bed or on the sofa or in my rocking chair (yes...I'm 80 years old, I read in a rocker). Just about anywhere soft, where I can put my feet up and snuggle under a blanket is a prime reading location.
#4. I will read just about anything that crosses my path. I generally prefer science fiction, but not weird science fiction...it's a fine line. I don't much like romance novels or anything mushy like those chicken soup books. The exception to my ban on romance books would be a series of historical romance books I read as a teen. They were each named after the lead female character (I remember Savannah and Roxy being two) and centered around her choosing between two boys during a significant historical event. I can't remember what the series was called. Does anyone remember those?
#5. I get my books from the library or from McKay's used books. I usually just grab a few books from the McKay's free bin whenever I stop by.
#6. After I have finished a book I almost always freecycle it. Unless it is a particularly fabulous book I don't see much reason is hogging it to myself.
#7. My reading quirks are many and varied. If I am reading a book from a series I MUST start at the beginning of the series. I will rarely abandon a series until I have finished all the books, even if they are terrible. If I have read more than 10% of a book I CAN NOT stop reading it. 10%....I count the pages.
I am currently reading the Harry Potter books to my sons. I love reading "real" books to them. I am sad that I won't be able to share some of my personal favorites with them. As the mother of three boys I will very much miss reading the Little House on the Prairie books or Little Woman (one of my all time favorites) with them.

I love sitting in my rocking chair, too. I call it my mom chair, instead of thinking that I'm 80 years old.

I love Harry Potter, though I'm sad, too, about not being able to read my boys the "girl" books that I loved.
I need to start freecycling books more. Hubby just collects them and they are EVERYWHERE. UGH.
ReplyDeleteit's a tad bright for me, but that's a personal opinion, so take it with a grain of salt. :)
Harry Potter was SO much fun! I was nannying when the first ones came out and I loved reading them to the 6 and 8 year olds.
I love Harry Potter. I'm trying to get my daughter to start reading at least the first one. I think she's about ready for the Little House books.
ReplyDeleteI love the new blog design. The only thing that might help is to put a darker background color on the header. That way the cute little graphic would show up better. And put up a twitter link. :)
ReplyDeleteso with you on reading the first book in the series first, when I came home with twiglight my husband asked why I didn't get New Moon since we watched Twiglight, told him I had to read the first book first and... I know books are sometimes different than the movie!
