Perspective

If you are anything like me you spend your time worrying about what you will make for dinner, whether or not the kids need new shoes or what color granite you want for your new countertops. There is, of course, nothing wrong with all this, it is what keeps your family running. The events of the past few days have led me to gain some much needed perspective.

I look at my children today, and find them safe and healthy with a roof over their heads and food in their bellys. They have easy and reliable access to clean drinking water and advanced medical care. We are infinately lucky.

The sort of disaster we have seen in Haiti brings out the best and the worst in people. Like me, you likely want to do something to help, but you probably don't posses the skill or ability. Ibdo urge you to give what you can monitarily. There are dozens of charities to choose from. I am sending my money to doctors without borders. I am also contacting whomever I can in hopes of helping the children at the BRESMA orphanage in Haiti. Decide how you can help and then do something.

Sadly, there are those who are not so generous in times of need. There are those who would use the deaths of tens of thousands of people and the suffering of millions more to attempt to further their own agendas. These sorts of acts are not only unchristian but inhuman. Children who have lost their homes, mothers who have no water for their babies and men who have watched helplessly as their families have been killed do not need your condemnation. They need your heartfelt prayers and perhaps a small percentage of the take from your donation boxes.

So please, give what you can and keep the people of Haiti in your thoughts.

  2. One of the things they are in greatest need of right now is blood. Please go to the Red Cross and donate - pass the word!
